1. Art exists along the neurological basis of exploration and discovery i.e. it is a function of nature/biological normalcy and is in inherent conflict with alienation and society. 2. The purpose of art is communicative expression through sensory appeal i.e. art is made to be observed/experienced... a painting is meant to be looked at, music is meant to be listened to - the deviation or hindrance of this purpose paradoxically undoes the function of art - for example, commodifying a song is saying some people can't listen to this because they didn't give Sony money. 3. Art is communicative and expressive. Because it is instinctual and intrinsic, the purpose of creating art is the opposite of profit-driven endeavors. 4. Under the maximization of capital, and a complete look at supply, demand, and devaluation, if art were a mere commodity and the creator merely a laborer, the products that are produced also contain the product value of products that constitute the means of production as well as capital tied to the laborer - i.e. the value of a product that goes into producing a new product (say a computer in music production) is stored in that product (like a capacitor, until time/obsolescence effecting utility depreciates the original value) and it's value is preserved by labor in the form of a transfer of value between commodities. I.e. the value of the computer does not increase on its own, simply decreases overtime, unless labor creates new products/value (audio) by preserving the value of the products constituting the means of production (computer) - and effectively transferring the startup product's value to the new commodity (audio file). However, this does not happen under the duress of intrinsic creation because of two things; 1. the computer is multi-functional and tied to the essentialism of the artist. 2. The computer is now part of an intrinsic process and contains intrinsic elements on its HDD; i.e. the potential for value is increased exponentially because the computer is a self-sustained conduit for effortless reproduction of intrinsic art and it becomes a faculty of the art. put into Producing a song for profit, under the duress of a market-based economy, uses different parts of the brain due to alienation i.e. the drive to create something and the reward centers of the brain vs. A forced externality inherently devaluing the labor itself. If the value of product is determined by the labor that went into it and also the value of means of production that go into production, then that the time spent on art is life... every aspect of life goes into an artists work. Art is the resultant expression of perceptions of reality - of emotion, thought; essentially, the ineffable human condition. When something is produced outside of this definition - i.e. for profit - it ceases to become art and is reduced to a material product.
